Grant-In-Aid
In cases of extreme need, the Bureau also
provides assistance under its specially designed Grant-In-Aid programme to pay
part of the cost of school related expenses. Only full-time students qualify
for Grant-In-Aid. Part Time students are eligible for tuition only.
The Funds under the Grant-In-Aid programme go towards living expenses and the
cost of books for students from low income families attending any approved
tertiary institutions. Students eligible for Grant-In-Aid assistance would have
been approved for a loan and have satisfied the eligibility criteria..
When an applicant is approved for a grant, the SLB sends the total sum to the
relevant tertiary institutions with a list of approved students. It is the
schools responsibility to remit the grant sum to students in two (2) payments
during the course of the school year. A student cannot get Grant-In-Aid unless
he/she gets financial assistance for tuition. In an extraordinary case where a
student gets a grant and did not access the loan for which they were approved,
he/she will be asked to return the amount immediately to the school or the
Students' Loan Bureau.
